I used to have the same problem with No. 5 of "Can Do", especially when ure only reading the House of Lords (in your case, High Court of Australia) cases and not know whether the appellant was initially the plaintiff or defendant.. heh..

Don't have that problem now cos I'm in-house.. yay!

*display of ignorance*

so what do in house lawyers do?

well, we are mostly general practitioners (tho our training are in specific areas) who serve all the legal needs of a single client, whether it be debt collection or appointment of consultants or employement or acquisition of other companies.

so the difference is that people in law firms tend to specialize more?

sorry about all the qns... and thanks alot for your patience

well, in big law firms people have to specialise to justify the higher fees and provide specialised services to clients.. e.g. I was in shipping litigation..

In an in-house role, you tend to look after all the interests of the company.. I still contribute significantly with my shipping training, but also do employee matters, etc.

And no more going to court! woo hoo!

I'll tell you when I figure it out myself.

*grin*

plus i suspect that I'll never "grow up" in some ways which is a pity.

Right now I'm at the information gathering stage but I think I may practice, at least for awhile. But I will keep what you said about in house lawyers in mind. with any luck, it'll be the same type of thing here in australia as well.
